Horse and rider balancing session

This is a special service I provide to clients. Special in that the synergy of horse and rider are the focus, bringing balance to each and together through this wonderful body work. (See section on VHT for more information on bodywork for people).

It is difficult for anyone to discern how an imbalance riding your horse began. The proverbial chicken and egg mystery exists here. Or rather – who was the criminal, creating the imbalance and who is the victim, attempting to rebalance and compensate for the imbalance created by the criminal. Horse? Or human?

Some instances have obvious sources, namely specific injuries. Most of us do not have a complete history of our horses as we purchased them later in their life, not to mention we can’t spend every moment with them to document every move. Riders also experience injuries. However, even those we think are healed can be affecting our and our horse’s balance when riding.

This session is for ALL disciplines. Even if you do upper level dressage, you and your horse’s bodies hold patterns in the muscles that stop true balance, responsiveness and the “flow” or fluid potential together.

Without this unity, you can have:

Transitions that stutter
Changes that lag or have a disunited quality
A less “floaty” or rhythmic trot
Stiffness in one direction
Reluctance to stretch over the topline
Reinforcement of compensation patterns furthering the spiral or pain or reduces ability to perform turns, circles, or other movements
Resistance to cues for certain movements
“Stuck” body position that is less effective; your compensation patterns buried in muscle memory create tension and blocks preventing ease in giving your horse cues.

Your riding instructor say’s “your leg goes here”, but your leg won’t stay in the “new” position. Muscle memory fights any change offered by your will power or the instructor’s placement and admonition. In minutes or at best days, the leg, hand, or shoulder return to the old pattern.
This session intends to do the same for you as for the horse – stop the pain spiral, release the tension in fascia, muscle or connective tissue; create the opportunity for you to put into the muscle a new memory. With this, wouldn’t your riding change? Wouldn’t your horse change?

Even in one session – tension and blocks are released, allowing for a more fluid, responsive and harmonious riding experience with your horse.

Session is 1 ½ to 2 hours for $75 – your barn or mine. Instructions for preparation for session and structure of the session given when appointment is booked.

Check our website for dates of clinics and other upcoming events. Future events in the planning stages include horse and rider balance session followed by specialized riding instruction to help retrain those muscles after the blocks have been released.
